About IXP Ecosystem
IXP Ecosystem is a free directory and analytics platform for the global Internet Exchange Point ecosystem: every IXP worldwide, the networks connected to them, the data centers that host them, and the organizations that operate them — with capacity, connectivity, market share, and historical trends for each.
Where the data comes from
All records originate from PeeringDB, the industry's user-maintained interconnection database. We import it nightly, compute derived metrics on top — month-over-month and year-over-year trends, per-country aggregates, operator market share, and a change log of every connection added, removed, or resized — and serve the result from an edge database for fast access worldwide. The current dataset was last refreshed on 22 Jul 2026.
How the metrics are computed
- Total capacity is the sum of the port speeds of all network connections at an IXP — the provisioned peering capacity, not measured traffic.
- Unique networks counts distinct ASNs connected in the selected scope, while connections counts ports — one network can hold several ports at one exchange.
- Market share is an operator's share of total provisioned capacity within the selected country or worldwide.
- Trends compare month-end snapshots; the history window covers the last 13 months.
- Port speed classes are inferred from the single aggregate speed PeeringDB reports per connection: totals that are exact multiples of a standard interface rate count toward the largest rate that divides them (a 500 Gbps LAG is 100G-class), and everything else rounds down. A LAG whose total lands exactly on a standard rate — 4x100G reporting 400G — cannot be distinguished from a native port.
Known limitations
PeeringDB is self-reported: accuracy depends on how well each organization maintains its records. Capacity figures represent provisioned port speeds rather than actual traffic, and exchanges or networks that do not maintain PeeringDB entries are not represented here.
Who builds it
IXP Ecosystem is built and maintained by Extreme Labs for the benefit of the IXP community. Extreme Labs is the company behind Extreme IX, one of India's largest internet exchanges, and NetSense NMS, a network monitoring platform for ISPs.
